Old World Village

Location: 7561 Center Avenue, Huntington Beach

Old World in Huntington Beach is probably one of the most unique places to shop in Southern California. A rustic European atmosphere is home to various shops here, which are all independently owned. The types of shops you will find is quite varied—from a little market to a hamburger joint and modern spa. Of course, there is also a little cafe for this cute venue. For the most part, all the stores here have their own special flavor. This is the perfect shopping area for a relaxed Sunday window-shopping trip if you’re in the mood for something that feels “out of the way.”

Oktoberfest is the most popular time at Old World when it is most crowded. Dachshund races happen from time to time, also, but are more numerous during Oktoberfest.

Old World is also host to a couple of very successful events: Oktoberfest in the Fall and dachshund races that take place at various times during the year. These are the only times there is a charge to get in. In addition, there is a banquet hall for any groups wishing to make a reservation.

Old World has changed a bit throughout the years, but luckily the changes have been few. There used to be a non-denominational church on the premises that actually did hold services; and while the church still stands, it no longer is open. There also used to be a bar/restaurant called Rathskeller, which no longer exists. Of the more traditional Old World dwellings, these are the only notable changes. Of course, the independent shops may change from time to time, but many have been there for years.

Just about every store at Old World is notable in some way. There’s even a violin shop! And while we’re on the subject of music, there are piano lessons there, too, for those who live in the area. A shop called “Paws at the Coffee Mill” is perfect for dog lovers, carrying all sorts of doggy-related items.

And for those who are interested in the healing arts, a store called Pura Vida offers energy healing sessions and massage, as well as selling crystals.

Old World is not only for vintage-themed shops, as proved by the healing arts location called Pura Vida.
